Pothole Dome

Pothole Dome is a breathtaking black sheep of Yosemite National Park. Located in the western most edge of  Tuolumne Meadows. This is an easy hike with a beautiful panoramic view of "North" Yosemite (this is the equivalent to the Men of the Nights Watch Wall in GOT, "north" and the wildling North)... anyway

The group started the hike at the Tuolumne Meadows visitor center located approximately a mile and half east of the peak. The hike toward the peak was filled with rivers, mountains, and vibrant plains of grass (as illustrated by this background photo, yes there were Amish folk present). The hike toward the destination was refreshing, and relatively easy. The hike toward the base of the peak from the visitor center was approximately a mile walk, with a zero gradient change throughout. I would highly recommend bringing water shoes in addition to any hiking shoes. There are several points in which you will need to cross a body of water too wide to jump or cross.

An alternative method for reaching the peak of the Dome would be parking at the foot of the Dome. This will unfortunately will eliminate the stunning trek through the grassy river land. However, it will save you a 45min - 1 hour walk. The hike up toward the dome has an average gradient of about 20%. Although not far, the hike up is an effort and the air is relatively thin as the overall height at the top is about eighty five thousand feet above seal level.

Views from the summit, is the cherry on top. See more below.
